"...I begin by teaching them proper technique; teach them to read music and/or tab (Hal Leonard, etc.); introduce my students to accuracy in the main 3 elements of musical style: Rhythm (beat foot, note lengths, phrasing), Melody (hitting all the notes, the line), and Harmony (chordal instruction, minimal music theory training to achieve progression performance); Eventually work with them to come up with their own style of performance, keeping the musical geometry of their training in mind...."
